Drain Systems

Precisely controlled glass flow for melters and forehearths

EMP-Glass designs electrically heated drain systems for installation beneath the furnace or forehearth, helping manufacturers achieve stable, controllable glass flow within demanding production environments. These systems support reliable flow control without the need for manual intervention on site.

Drain systems

A heated flow-control solution for glass discharge

EMP’s Drain Systems can be installed beneath the furnace or forehearth and are electrically heated. The flow rate is precisely adjustable through temperature control, while the drain shape and heating current density are optimized to ensure stable and consistent glass flow.

Additional cooling can be integrated as part of the flow control system, allowing convenient stopping and restarting of the glass flow when required.

The full process is managed via a touchscreen control panel, eliminating the need for manual intervention on site. Drain Systems can be supplied either as standalone unit or as part of a larger Platinum system.

Electrical heating

The drain is electrically heated, supporting controlled and responsive flow regulation.

Precisely adjustable flow rate

Glass flow can be adjusted through temperature control, allowing the system to match process requirements more accurately.

Stable and consistent flow

The drain shape and heating current density are optimized to maintain stable and consistent glass flow during operation.

Integrated stopping and restarting

Additional cooling can be incorporated into the flow control system, making it possible to stop and restart glass flow conveniently when needed.

Touchscreen-controlled operation

The entire process is managed through a touchscreen control panel, reducing the need for manual intervention at the production line.

Flexible delivery scope

Drain Systems can be delivered as standalone unit or integrated into a larger Platinum-based System, depending on the project concept.

Drain systems

Drain Systems for Glass Melters and Forehearth Applications

EMP’s Drain Systems are designed for use with various glass melters and forehearths, where controlled discharge, stable flow behavior and practical process control are essential.

Their installation flexibility and adjustable flow characteristics make them suitable for production environments that require dependable glass handling at this stage of the process.

For customers, this means working with a partner that does not only supply hardware, but can also support the full path from concept to operational system.

A complete project can include more than the drain itself

EMP’s provides design and hardware delivery of complete turnkey systems based on electrically heated Platinum alloy parts. Depending on the broader project scope, a Drain System can therefore be supplied within a wider solution that includes pre-assembled modules, complete heating equipment with temperature control, necessary accessories, oxygen-bubble-related equipment and optional process equipment.

Pre-Assembled Modules

Optimized modules combine Platinum alloy parts, thermal insulation and steel support structures to reduce thermal losses, simplify installation and support stable long-term operation.

Heating Equipment & Temperature Control

Advanced control units provide highly precise temperature regulation of up to ±1 °K, helping improve energy efficiency, process stability and product consistency.

Mechanical Accessories

We supply essential mechanical equipment for melting and forming operations, including solutions for plungers, stirrers, glass shears and glass level control systems.

Oxygen Bubble Reduction Equipment

Specialized devices help reduce oxygen bubbles caused by electrolysis, improving optical quality and minimizing production waste.

Environmental Control Systems, Water Dipping Equipment

For high-temperature glass applications, ECS solutions help improve product quality and extend Platinum system lifetime. For less demanding glass types, water dipping equipment can also be supplied.

Optional Forming Equipment

Systems can be extended with additional components such as drawing chambers, roller assemblies, annealing chambers and other customized forming solutions for specialized production lines.

Simulation-driven system optimization

EMP also offers modeling services for electrically heated Platinum systems, including simulations of Platinum components, surrounding insulation and glass flow. This capability can support system optimization and better technical decision-making in complex projects.

A structured process for reliable project delivery

From the first consultation to commissioning and after-sales support, EMP-Glass follows a clear and efficient workflow tailored to each customer’s technical and production requirements.

This step-by-step process helps ensure precision, transparency and reliable execution throughout the project.
